"The colonists came to America, because you heard it was a free country." Came from neighborhoods, which had problems, "says Nathan, age 7."
I wonder if you think Australia instead of America.
"Early American settlers came to America for freedom, God and gold," says Jenny, age unknown.
Legends of gold cities lured some who says earliest Spanish conquerors to America but Natalie, 12, hardship and privation risked many early American colonists religious freedom: "in their countries, it was illegal practice religion the way you wanted." They had to do what ordered their leaders.
"This was a problem because these beliefs were not their own." When you came to America, she founded colonies where you could worship freely. "Dream of freedom is what brought you to America."
American colonization and independence can be explained partly from economic, political and military perspectives; each view that suppresses the desire for spiritual freedom not adequately but explained why people leave their homes for this new land. Question: in the decades before the signing of the Declaration of independence, the name of the man of who spoke with most Americans: George Washington, Patrick Henry, Samuel Adams, Benjamin Franklin.
None of the above. He was not even an American citizen. Helps the? Probably not. Have you ever heard of George Whitefield? I had never, until I read about the great awakening, the Whitefield led on two continents (North America and Europe). Some church historian compare this spiritual awakening spreading the good news in the days of the early Church as Apostles of Jesus took the Gospel in every corner of the Roman Empire.
Whitefield began with clarity and strength that most people had never experienced in the age of 22 to preach the need of being born again by believing in Jesus Christ alone for the eternal redemption. Starting with coal miners close to Bristol, England, took the message to the people by preaching outdoors Whitefield. As he preached, grew the masses. Sunday, March 25, 1739 is estimated 23,000 people in Bristol Whitefield preach heard.
Whitefield sermon came to the first of seven tours to America, he preached courthouse in Philadelphia of the steps. The audience was Benjamin Franklin, who was fascinated with the carrying capacity Whitefield's voice. He carefully entered distance and estimated that 30,000 people could hear him. Although Franklin's Whitefield urge public and personal resisted becoming a Christian, he was printed a lifelong friend of the famous evangelist and his preaching.
By 1736 around 1770, Whitefield preached more than 18,000 sermons, more than an average 10 per week. The effects described Dr. RIMAS j. Orentas: "the universal experience of the great awakening, we began to realize that we were a nation." This national identity rooted in the belief that we a person selected by God for a particular purpose.
"In the earliest prayer of the Puritans was the idea that your colony could be a city on a hill." "Experience the great awakening, the entire nation was a citadel of light in a dark world."
What did God, he can do now. The power of the Gospel has not reduced, but their impact is often of Christians, the good news to share and diluted its impact in your life life. Can you imagine the result if every Christian in America tells only one person per month via the saving power of Jesus?
Is a light on a Hill as a nation begins at home with individual Christians always lights in the workplace and in the community. Type for that let your light shine for an hour on Sunday morning. Live the adventure of take account of the dark spots where it shines brightest of light of the Gospel.
